As an employee of Realtree Outdoors I have experienced a lot of hunting outfits…

I had the privilege of being invited to High Ground Hunting Club to hunt with Jack Strassweg, the founder of High Ground Hunting Club, and Greg DeWeese, also affiliated with High Ground Hunting Club.

My experience at High Ground was first class, from the accommodations to the incredible hunting, which was second to none.

High Ground had several projects that were a true testament to their dedication to maintaining waterfowl habitat.

The temperatures when we were there were not exactly ideal, ranging from a low of about 40 degrees to a high of about 60 degrees.

However this didn’t seem to affect the number of ducks that use this area for their feeding and roosting.

There were several thousand ducks that continued to fly throughout the day, most of which were concentrated in this area.

Coming and going continually, it was truly amazing to see how busy the skies were at any given time in the day.

The hospitality given by the members that welcomed us was second to none.

I highly recommend High Ground Hunting Club for any hunter that is serious about waterfowl …

When you were out there, everyone made you feel like they had known you forever…

It is definitely a place that I look forward to returning again.

Thanks to Jack and Greg and all of the other fellow hunters that we had the pleasure of meeting…

I witnessed first hand that what you’re doing is top notch.

Thanks again for this opportunity…

Those of you who have had kids in college and high school realize that your moments together are few and far between and hopefully these rare moments can be special.
Well, my boys and I recently spent time at High Ground Hunting Club. It was awesome. The accommodations and hospitality were perfect. Everything Greg prepared in the kitchen quickly vanished that Friday night. We had some good family time Friday evening with no one around to interrupt. The boys didn’t even seem to be interested in their cell phones. The view from the cabin was tremendous. You could hear the geese in the distance by the thousands. Several deer were coming in and out of the nearby food plot. The boys slept great and were a little slow getting up for breakfast but they were anticipating the hunting.
The next morning was a little warm but a beautiful day. The blind, food, duck calling, etc. were great and our hunting experience was perfect. This was a first time waterfowl hunt for my two teenagers and they did great. Warren even came up with a double and Clayton’s shooting was also right on target. Dad couldn’t keep up. The hotdogs in the blind kept us fueled up.
Most importantly our guide Greg DeWeese and friend Evan Beck made the experience very relaxing and fun. These guys, including Evan’s dog, made the day perfect. It was a day all three of us will always remember. So much fun and no work! It was a weekend Dad didn’t want to end. Introduce someone new to hunting and High Ground Hunting Club.
Sincerely,

As an avid outdoorsman and a crazed waterfowler the High Ground Hunting Club is a perfect fit for me. HGHC Founder Jack Strassweg had been telling me HGHC stories over the years and this year he called my office and asked me to come down for a duck hunt. Thankfully, I cleared my busy schedule and took Jack up on his offer Thursday, Dec 8, 2005. Jack took me to Tin City and introduced me to some great people, all in camo and all chasing the same goal: be safe and have a great time!

My first hunt at HGHC was absolutely spectacular as I joined other members and guests in Tug’s Landing with threatening skies, steady winds and cold temperatures. As we arrived to the ground pit, I thought it was October and that I was back in Canada based on the amount of birds that had called HGHC home the previous night as their roost. It was truly amazing and my excitement and anticipation was high!

Needless to say, under the direction of founders Rick Krohn and Jack Strassweg, our hunt was very successful as we took turns taking aim on close-in decoying ducks. Everyone shot safe and well all morning and the dogs did a great job of bringing the harvested waterfowl back to hand.

With a ground pit full of people from various walks of life one would expect an uncomfortable hunting atmosphere. But HGHC is far from that as I was made to feel like I was one of the boys from the get go. Again, it’s all about safe, fun hunting experiences with other outdoorsmen sharing the same passion as I do in addition to an understanding of family values and the youth hunters.

The following morning I made my way back down to the Geneva Store for a warm plate of eggs, bacon and biscuits & gravy before arriving at HGHC Tin City to deliver my membership application and check to Jack Strassweg.
A day never passes that I don’t look forward to getting back to HGHC!

Jack:

Thank you for your time in showing me around and the opportunity to sample some of the finest waterfowl hunting I could ever imagine. It was truly a pleasure. To be honest...I enjoyed Gus more than you.

I look forward to many high caliber hunts with high caliber people.

Thanks for having me and my family in your club.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need hands to help clean up at seasons end. Never been scared of a little work.

PS- Think I ought to ask Carl if he would pick me up next season when I want to hunt? HA!

Thanks again

Jack,

I wanted to thank you for all that you and your fellow owner & members did to accommodate my clients/directors/friends, each were truly appreciative of the environment/habitat that the owners have created at HGHC. Rick, Clifford & Joe were enjoyable company and good hosts and I hope they were able to enjoy our folks as well. I hope all including myself performed up to standards you would expect of guest hunters on your property; they like me consider it a privilege to hunt your club.

Thanks & Regards

RE: Trophy Whitetail Deer Hunting

Dear John:

Before I get into the details, let me provide you with a quick note regarding our prior hunting experience. We have hunted whitetail deer in the southeastern U.S. for over 25 years. We own 600 acres of prime land in one of the premier whitetail hunting regions in the state of Alabama – the “black belt”. Furthermore, we enjoyed hunting trophy whitetail deer in Saskatchewan, Canada in 2004, 2005 and 2006. So we have some idea of what trophy hunting is about and our prior hunting experience is what makes our experience with High Ground Hunting Club even better.

Here is a quick summary of our experience. The accommodations you provided were spacious, comfortable and contained all the comforts of home. The hospitality was outstanding and then there was the hunt. Wow, the hunt! Jim Dover (my hunting partner) and I saw numerous racked bucks during our hunt. In fact, we saw four bucks with ten points or better. We also saw several eight point bucks, several six point bucks, several smaller bucks and many other does. I never thought I would have the nerve to pass on an opportunity to harvest a 135-140 class buck with my bow, but because of the animals we saw during our hunt, I actually passed on an eleven point that would score in that range. However, within ten minutes of passing on that deer I had the privilege of harvesting a 159+ inch eleven point. This is the first Pope & Young and perhaps the first Boone & Crockett buck of my life – official scoring by an official P&Y / B&C representative will take place after the required 60 day drying period.

For the reasons already mentioned, we are planning our second annual trophy whitetail deer hunt to High Ground Hunting Club. We simply could not resist returning for one of the best hunting experience ever. Based on these points, I would like to extend an invitation to any of your prospective clients to contact me directly to discuss my experience with High Ground Hunting Club. This is truly a trip of a lifetime!

Let me take this opportunity to thank you, Will and Jack for making our first hunting trip to High Ground Hunting Club a memory of a lifetime.

Sincerely,

Rob Grubb

Dear Jack, Rick, and Cliff,

Sitting at home on a warm spring afternoon in the off season it occurred to me that I owe the three of you a letter of thanks. Without a doubt, the worst mistake of my 60 years of waterfowl hunting was not giving HGHC a try when I first heard about it 5 or 6 years ago.

When I first heard about HGHC and its' 8 man pits, I was immediately turned off, BIG mistake on my part. The mistake was in assuming all large capacity pits are the same, not only in size but in the way they are hunted. I have always shied away from huntin with big crowds from a safety standpoint as well as not wanting to be involved in "gang shooting" at each and every flock or single that comes near a blind. Once I gave HGHC a try, I quickly learned that my preconceived ideas were completely wrong where High Ground was concerned.

Not only is safety stressed continually, but shooting is stricly rotated between each person in the pit or blind and that is just the beginning of what makes HGHC standout as a premier waterfowl hunting property.

The three of you, as founding partners of HGHC, have made it a hard and fast rule that all hunters whether they are owners, members or guests are treated equally with respect. Every hunter, guest or employee goes out of their way to be sure that anyone coming to High Ground is made to feel welcome as though they were part of the group from the beginning. Because treating everyone like this has become so natural to you, I doubt that you even realize how unique this makes HGHC compared to other hunting groups. It is such a normal part of your operation that everyone involved takes it for granted. But, believe me, it is one of the things that makes your club standout head and shoulders about other groups.

Another thing that makes HGHC unique is the large number of well trained retrievers owned by its' members. Your commitment to stressing the high level of training required of the dogs that are hunted at High Ground is not only a credit to you but to your members as well.

It goes without saying that your encouragement of youth hunters is an equally important part of High Grounds overall success.

I want to personally thank each of you for allowing me to become a part of the High Ground organization and for the effort you have each made in developing HGHC into such a high caliber property.

Sincerely,
Steve Cook
