RE: Trophy Whitetail Deer Hunting

Dear John:

Before I get into the details, let me provide you with a quick note regarding our prior hunting experience. We have hunted whitetail deer in the southeastern U.S. for over 25 years. We own 600 acres of prime land in one of the premier whitetail hunting regions in the state of Alabama – the “black belt”. Furthermore, we enjoyed hunting trophy whitetail deer in Saskatchewan, Canada in 2004, 2005 and 2006. So we have some idea of what trophy hunting is about and our prior hunting experience is what makes our experience with High Ground Hunting Club even better.

Here is a quick summary of our experience. The accommodations you provided were spacious, comfortable and contained all the comforts of home. The hospitality was outstanding and then there was the hunt. Wow, the hunt! Jim Dover (my hunting partner) and I saw numerous racked bucks during our hunt. In fact, we saw four bucks with ten points or better. We also saw several eight point bucks, several six point bucks, several smaller bucks and many other does. I never thought I would have the nerve to pass on an opportunity to harvest a 135-140 class buck with my bow, but because of the animals we saw during our hunt, I actually passed on an eleven point that would score in that range. However, within ten minutes of passing on that deer I had the privilege of harvesting a 159+ inch eleven point. This is the first Pope & Young and perhaps the first Boone & Crockett buck of my life – official scoring by an official P&Y / B&C representative will take place after the required 60 day drying period.

For the reasons already mentioned, we are planning our second annual trophy whitetail deer hunt to High Ground Hunting Club. We simply could not resist returning for one of the best hunting experience ever. Based on these points, I would like to extend an invitation to any of your prospective clients to contact me directly to discuss my experience with High Ground Hunting Club. This is truly a trip of a lifetime!

Let me take this opportunity to thank you, Will and Jack for making our first hunting trip to High Ground Hunting Club a memory of a lifetime.

Sincerely,

Rob Grubb

November 21, 2007 | BLINDS ARE READY FOR WATERFOWL SEASON!

Over the past weekend, final preparations were completed in getting ready for another successful waterfowl season at High Ground Hunting Club.

This Go-Devil floating blind is in Coon Slough at our Tin City farm nestled in a clump of cattails in the middle of the slough. Due to the numbers of ducks which used Coon Slough last year, we have placed this blind as well as an additional Go-Devil floating blind in the tall timber and covered it in Pin Oak limbs.

November 09, 2007 | BUCKS AND PRE-RUT ACTIVITY

The deer are active. We are starting to see them throughout the morning and evening hours on the farms. This weekend is the opening weekend for gun season. Hopefully, we will see a few large deer killed this weekend.

November 08, 2007 | NICE 12 POINTER TAKEN AT KY WHITETAIL FARM

This nice 12 point buck was taken over the weekend at our KY Whitetail farm. We are seeing more and more bigger bucks with the cooler weather setting in.

November 07, 2007 | BIG BOY IN THE BACKGROUND...

Look closely in the back and you will see a very large deer with a nice spread. This deer, along with many other large trophies, have been recently sighted due to the onset of the rut. The big deer are really starting to move.

November 06, 2007 | NEW SIGNS ARE IN PLACE

We have installed new signs on our farms to help our guests identify our locations. This sign is in front of the new Sanctuary Lodge.

November 05, 2007 | MALLARDS IN THE FLOODED CORN!

We have Mallards in our flooded corn now. Over the weekend, we saw great numbers of larger ducks moving in to the area. With water more abundantly available, we should be seeing more and more as we get closer to the season opener on Thanksgiving day.

November 02, 2007 | BUNKHOUSE COMPETE

The remodeling of THE SHED at Rock Springs provides a great bunkhouse space for hunters and families.

November 01, 2007 | PRE-RUT BUCKS IN THE COOLER WEATHER

We are really starting to see the bucks now! With the onset of our fantastic fall weather, the deer are starting to get ready for the rut.

October 31, 2007 | NEW SANCTUARY LODGE INTERIOR WORK STARTING

Work on the exterior of the new Sanctuary Lodge is nearly complete and the focus is now turning indoors. Rough wiring and plumbing are being installed as paneling has arrived for install. The old lodge, which will become sleeping quarters, is also in the renovation stage to get ready for the upcoming seasons.

In the meantime, we are using our other lodges to temporarily house our guest hunters until the work is complete at the Sanctuary. We appreciate their patience as we grow.

October 30, 2007 | WATER FLOWING IN SANCTUARY LAKE

Along with a little help from Mother Nature, the Sanctuary Refuge Lake is beginning to hold water and ducks. Several hundred ducks have found their way to the flooded 38 acres of corn and are beginning to call it home. By Thanksgiving, we should be holding several thousand ducks for a great opening weekend!

October 29, 2007 | FALL TURKEY SUCCESS

Brad Conley, bow member, shows a nice Jake turkey killed at HGHC over the weekend with farm manager Will Hagan.

October 26, 2007 | THE MIGRATION IS STARTING!!!

We are beginning to see many ducks and geese around our farms and the state F & W areas. The season will be here in a month!

October 25, 2007 | MORE RAIN PREDICTED FOR THE NEXT 2 DAYS

The rain dance continues to work as more rain is predicted for the tri-state area for the next 2 days. Water is beginning to fill in around our newest blind, Drakes, behind the beaver dam.

October 24, 2007 | THE RAIN GODS HAVE SHINED

Recently, owner/founder Jack Strassweg performed a rain dance at our Tin City Farm. It worked! Over the past few days, we have received over 4 inches of much needed rain and it is helping to fill our sloughs and reservoirs.

This picture shows the water starting to back up around the beaver dam. Hopefully, by the weekend, we will have more water building up as the ducks begin to arrive.

October 23, 2007 | SHED REMODEL NEARLY COMPLETE

The remodeling project at The Shed at Rock Springs is almost done. HVAC, carpet, tile, new kitchen and baths, along with the laundry room are almost complete. Furniture will arrive soon and this beautiful, new lodge will be ready for the families of our guests.

October 22, 2007 | DRAKES BLIND IN FULL CAMO

Over the weekend, Drake\'s blind below the beaver dam received its initial camo. This new blind is now surrounded with heavy brush. Pin Oak limbs were pruned from our numerous trees and then stuffed in around the blind making it virtually invisible. After a few weeks, when the foliage drops, the blind will receive more materials.

October 19, 2007 | SANCTUARY LODGE BACK PORCH ADDED

Part of the renovation and addition to the Sanctuary lodge is to add a huge, covered back porch. Recently the porch pad was poured with concrete and the overhang roof completed. The dirt you see mounded around it will be removed after construction allowing its only access through the lodge. Members and guests will be able to enjoy themselves on the porch by grilling and watching the 1000\'s of ducks pile into the Sanctuary refuge lake in the evenings.

October 17, 2007 | KIDS HAVING A GREAT HUNT AT HIGH GROUND HUNTING CLUB

Sam and Jake Springer were having a great time at HGHC during the KY youth deer season. The boys, along with Dad Mark, hunted from a Ranch King ground blind. HGHC has 4 of these new blinds which are perfect for kids (and fidgity adults) to hunt from. It allows them to move around, eat, and whisper without disturbing the hunt.

October 16, 2007 | CANADA SUCCESS

HGHC Owner Evan Beck in Manitoba Canada. In this picture, you will see 8 Mallards and 5 geese. A great time was had by all!

October 16, 2007 | YOUTH DEER SEASON A SUCCESS!

As you can see in this picture, HGHC was overrun by youth deer hunters this weekend. In all, 4 does were harvested along with a buck. The kids all enjoyed their hunting experience as well as the fun of camp life.

October 12, 2007 | SANCTUARY CONSTRUCTION MOVING QUICKLY

The new addition and remodeling of the Sanctuary Lodge and HGHC headquarters is moving quickly. As you can see, the lodge towers over the surrounding fields offering a great view of the Sanctuary Farm, Ohio River, and Sloughs FWA. Siding is complete and interior work is moving quickly.

October 12, 2007 | BIG DEER ON ON THE MOVE WITH COOLER WEATHER

Trail cams are capturing pics of large deer using our farms. With the onset of the cooler weather, hunting should improve greatly! In the foreground of this picture you see a nice young buck which will probably be a "shooter" next year. But, do you see the BIG BOY back at the feeder in the background?

October 11, 2007 | NICE BUCKS STARTING TO SPAR

This trail cam photo captured 2 nice bucks beginning to spar near a feeder. We are seeing more and more large deer using the farms. The recent change to cooler weather should surely promote their movement.

October 10, 2007 | REMODEL OF THE SHED CLOSE TO COMPLETION

The remodeling project of The Shed is almost completed. This picture shows the new kitchen. Carpeting and tile are in and only a few minor touches remain. Furniture will follow soon and this beautiful lodge will be ready for our guests and families.

October 09, 2007 | PLANTING CONTINUES

Owner/founder Jack Strassweg was busy planting around the Sanctuary lake on Sunday. The borders of the corn are being planted in crops to attract more waterfowl.

October 08, 2007 | NEW HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE BLIND

HGHC has purchased a ground level, wheelchair accessible deer blind. This blind has been strategically placed on a well traveled food plot and should see great success.

October 04, 2007 | MORE BIG DEER PHOTOS

The big deer are on the move. This nice buck was captured on the Kentucky Whitetail farm.

October 03, 2007 | MORE BIG DEER

We are filming more and more big deer this fall using our trail cams. As the weather turns cooler this week, we should begin seeing more activity from these larger bucks.

September 28, 2007 | SHED REMODELING PROGRESSING

The remodeling project at The Shed located on the Kentucky Whitetail farm is closer to completion. Rough plumbing is done, wiring is ran, walls are insulated, floor tile is being laid, and the paneling on the walls is done.

This picture is of the bunkhouse area of the building.

September 27, 2007 | DRAKES BLIND EXCAVATION

A larger, deeper hole has been excavated in front of the new Drake\'s blind. This will allow for deeper, open water during the season to help prevent freezing.

September 26, 2007 | WATER IN THE CATHEDRAL

Due to the recent placement of over 300 feet of 4 inch pipe from the Arkansas water well, we now have the ability to pump water out in the slough to the Cathedral area. Previously, this area has been a great spot to waterfowl hunt but would freeze and not allow access. With the ability to pump water, we can now keep this blind open when everything else freezes around it. As you know, this can mean high success on cold days!

September 24, 2007 | SUCCESSFUL WOOD DUCK/TEAL SEASON

This year proved a difficult year for most hunters who attempted to harvest Wood Ducks and Teal during the KY early 5 day season. With the major drought and lack of water in nearby sloughs, many found the ducks scarce.

But, High Ground Hunting Club owners and guests found great success due to our ability to pump water from our wells and flood cells for the ducks. During the 5 day season, HGHC hunters harvested 104 Wood Ducks and Teal with a bird to hunter ratio of 3.25 birds per hunter. Nine of these birds were banded!

September 21, 2007 | SANCTUARY LODGE PROGRESS

As you can see, the new 3 story building is dwarfing the old lodge at the Sanctuary. All of the exterior walls, roof, and windows are in place. Interior rooms are framed and the entire building is extremely impressive. This will be a formidable location for our lodges and offices for HGHC. Completion is set for November.

September 20, 2007 | CAMP LIFE AT ROCK SPRINGS

The night before the opening day of Wood Duck season, several owners and guests met at the Rock Springs Lodge for an evening of great food by Chef Krohn, good stories, and relaxation.

Enjoyable camp life at HGHC is one of the reasons for our success.

September 19, 2007 | WOOD DUCK AND TEAL SEASON OPENER

HGHC Owners Evan Beck and Greg DeWeese enjoyed a great Wood duck hunt this morning along with Zach Fehrenbacher who is the son of owner Bob Fehrenbacher. Zach was fortunate enough to shoot a banded wood duck. Greg\'s dog Mack had his work cut out for him in the low water, extremely muddy conditions. Note the mud on his coat from bounding across muddy flats where he sank leg deep in muck.

Overall, HGHC owners and their guests harvested 44 Wood Ducks and Teal this morning on the opening day of the season.

September 17, 2007 | RANCH KING BLINDS ARE IN PLACE

High Ground purchased 4 of these unbelievable Ranch King deer stands. They are in place and ready to use. One of the stands is handicap accessible for our disabled hunters.

September 14, 2007 | FLEET OF TRUCKS

The new mini trucks are here! They are completely Rhino lined, camo, 4 X 4, with heat and air. Want one? They are available exclusively through High Ground Hunting Club for $7995. Send email to info@highgroundhuntingclub.com for orders or info.

September 13, 2007 | SANCTUARY FIRST FLOOR FRAMING

Framing is complete on the first floor and the second floor with trusses are being completed as of this posting. This lodge will be a showpiece in the bottoms!

September 12, 2007 | VIEW FROM ON HIGH

This photo was taken from the second floor of the new Sanctuary Lodge. This floor is approximately 25 feet off of the ground and will give panoramic views of the blinds and refuge on the property. It should be an exciting season to watch waterfowl drop into the Sanctuary Lake and roost for the night.

September 11, 2007 | MASSIVE STORAGE UNDER NEW SANCTUARY LODGE

As you can see from this picture, we have a massive amount of storage for vehicles and equipment under the new Sanctuary Lodge. This pic shows only half of the basement which will have overhead doors on each end.

September 10, 2007 | SANCTUARY FRAMING UNDERWAY

The first floor framing and basement of the new Sanctuary Lodge are complete. Walls for the second floor are done and ready to stand today. Trusses should be in place by mid week and the building enclosed within 7 days. As you can see, even without the second floor added, the new addition towers above the old lodge.

September 07, 2007 | WELCOME FINAL NEW PARTNER BOB FEHRENBACHER

HGHC would like to welcome its newest and final equity partner; Bob Fehrenbacher-far left. Bob has spent his lifetime hunting deer, turkey, and waterfowl in Southern Indiana and Illinois. He manages his own farm near the Wabash River by New Harmony along with sons Zachary, Patrick, and Peter pictured here left to right.

September 06, 2007 | WATER PUMPING BELOW ROCK SPRINGS

We are beginning to pump water into one of our impoundments from the wells. Hopefully, we will have a good attractant for our very dry Wood Duck season.

September 05, 2007 | CLEARING FOR WATERFOWL

Owner/Founder Jack Strassweg is seen here on a tractor with a bush hog attachment. Due to the incredibly low water levels, he is manicuring a normally wet area for future flooding for our upcoming waterfowl season. The water impoundment he is working in is in the developmental stages and will be hunted periodically to determine needs for growth.

September 05, 2007 | WATERFOWL LEVEE CLEARING

Will Hagan is aboard the skid steer with the grinder attachment clearing a levee on a water impoundment project. The carbide teeth on this implement allow it to chew through brush and small trees in order to create better flow of game.

September 04, 2007 | MORE DEER FEEDERS BEING ADDED

High Ground owner/partners Steve Cook and Clifford Romain spent the day building additional deer feeders for the farms.

August 31, 2007 | SHED REMODELING CONTINUES

The remodeling of The Shed at the Kentucky Whitetail farm is in full progress. As you can see in this photo, large, 7 foot windows have been added to the front to watch game through. Rustic paneling is ready to be installed and finish work is scheduled to be completed soon.

August 31, 2007 | HARVEST HAS BEGUN

The corn harvest has begun in the bottoms. Due to the excessive drought, farmers are now harvesting their crops.

August 30, 2007 | SANCTUARY FOUNDATION COMPLETED

The block foundation at The Sanctuary\'s new lodge is completed. The floor inside the foundation will be concrete along with overhead doors on the end. This area will be used for equipment and decoy storage.

As you can see, the the new lodge addition will rise high above the old lodge. With the large windows, hunters and guests will have a great view of the entire farm including the sanctuary lake.

Framing will begin shortly!

August 30, 2007 | SQUIRREL SEASON IN FULL SWING

Owners of HGHC have been actively pursuing the very elusive squirrels on the property. Currently, the squirrels are heavily cutting hickory nuts. Moderate success has been experienced as they are remaining high in the trees in the thick foliage.

August 29, 2007 | MORE BIG DEER PHOTOS

This picture shows a couple of very nice, young bucks at night. They are not quite shooters yet but will mature in the next couple of years.

They were photographed with an infra-red trail camera at one of our food plots.

August 28, 2007 | BIG DEER ON TRAIL CAMERAS

John Rutledge and Will Hagan have been strategically placing trail cameras over the properties. In this picture, John wants to know if you can pick out the 2 shooters.

We are gathering data on travel patterns and habits of our bigger deer on the farms. We are mapping these patterns with the use of trail cams and aerial photos to pinpoint their movements.

August 27, 2007 | CITY WATER NOW ON THE HILL AT ROCK SPRINGS

Recently, .9 miles of 3 inch PVC water line was run from the base of the hill at Martin Martin Rd. to the top of the hill at the Rock Springs lodge. As many owners are aware, we have had water well problems on the hill from the start. The quality of the water was poor and could not be used for drinking or cooking. We will now have a good source for clean water with good pressure.

August 24, 2007 | TREE CONSERVATION

In our efforts to maintain our CRP ground, we have protected our growing hardwood tree population with Tree Pro's (the white tubes you see) These protect the trees and create a greenhouse effect to promote growth. Along with regular trimming with our flail mower, these hardwood saplings grow 600 percent faster than if simply planted in the ground and left to grow on their own.

August 23, 2007 | SANCTUARY FOUNDATION #2

This is another view of the new addition being constructed on the Sanctuary lodge on HWY 268. As you can see, this 4800 square foot 2 story lodge will be a great center of operations for HGHC. All hunters will check in at this location daily for hunting assignments.

August 22, 2007 | SANCTUARY LODGE FOUNDATION WORK

The foundation work for the new Sanctuary Lodge addition is almost competed. Framing will be soon!

August 21, 2007 | CAMO MINI TRUCKS NOW AVAILABLE $7995.00

High Ground Hunting Club now offers camo mini-trucks for all of your hunting needs. These trucks are camo inside and out, 4WD, and have A/C and heated cabs. Compare the price to a new 4 wheeler or UTV and we think you will want one of these in your hunting equipment inventory. Email info@highgroundhuntingclub to order or for more details.

August 20, 2007 | DRAKE\'S BLIND

The new blind below the beaver dam now has an official name. In following the High Ground tradition of naming our blinds after past hunting dogs, we are naming this blind \"DRAKE\'S\". Pictured here is HGHC partner/owner Evan Beck who was Drake\'s owner. Drake was 14 years old when he died and was a grandson of the world famous stud dog Harley To Go.

August 18, 2007 | SEPTEMBER WOOD DUCK SEASON AND THE DROUGHT

It is hard to imagine a time when water was so scarce in Henderson County. As you can see from this picture, Alvis Slough is almost completely dry. This picture shows our owners meeting in front of Kate\'s Blind today to discuss the early KY Wood Duck season. There is no water in the slough around Kate\'s, the boat launch, or the Cathedral. Due to the lack of water and extremely limited hunting opportunities, we will not be able to accomodate guest and member hunters for this September season. If we receive a substantial amount of rain in the next month, this could change.

August 17, 2007 | GO-DEVIL BLIND CAMO

It is 100 degrees in Kentucky and we are already thinking about camo on our Go-Devil duck blinds. This blind is covered in Phragmite reeds to enable it to disappear in our sloughs which are bordered with them.

August 16, 2007 | THE SHED REMODELING IS PROGRESSING

Remodeling at The Shed on the Kentucky Whitetail farm is progressing well. The entire building was gutted and the new stud walls are in place. All of the electrical and plumbing work is complete and drywall will be next. This lodge will have 2 private bedrooms, a bunkhouse, kitchen and living room combination, laundry room, and 2 bathrooms with 3 showers. This will be a great lodge addition to our property.

August 15, 2007 | LOW WATER CONDITIONS

The lack of rain has caused many of the sloughs to evaporate in the recent high temperatures. Hopefully, our fall rains will start soon and return them to normal levels.

August 14, 2007 | SHED REMODELING MOVING WELL

The remodeling of the Shed at Kentucky Whitetail is coming along well. This family lodge will be handicap accessible as well. In this photo, you can see the overhang has now been enclosed. Inside will be a bunkhouse, 2 bathrooms, and a laundry room for our guests.

August 06, 2007 | LEVEES AND ROADS HAVE BEEN ROCKED

All of the levees and roads through our deer, turkey, and waterfowl properties have a thick, fresh layer of gravel on them. This will enable easier access for our deer and turkey hunters when the conditions get wet.

August 05, 2007 | RANCH KING HANDICAP BLIND

HGHC has purchased this ground based handicap accessible blind made by Ranch King Blinds. This blind will be placed in a strategic location on our farms and will be portable. The model we have ordered will have a wider door with access ramp and can be used for deer and turkey hunting.

Each blind is insulated, has archery and firearm windows, gun rests, and curtains. Three of these will be 15ft. high and the other one will be handicapped accessible. These blinds will be perfect for our ever-popular youth season with \"squirmy\" children!

August 04, 2007 | BUCK-A-RAMA

July 31, 2007 | Trail Clearing

July 30, 2007 | Food Plot Management

Our new fall food plots are being planted. Hopefully, with a little late summer rain, we will have new feeding areas for wildlife this fall.
